Those of us who were reared with film, and processed our own black and white, have long had a fascination with infrared photography. It could be very rewarding, but it was extremely unpredictable, and there were more failures than successes. Infrared film is no longer available to the ordinary photographer, but most digital SLRs can be converted to record infrared light, which is invisible to the naked eye. And so the fascination continues. Digital infrared photography can still be a bit unpredictable, but at least the preview facility of digital cameras takes a lot of the frustration out of it.
